My name is Susan Collins and I am an experienced interior designer pursuing always the ultimate in impeccable décor and practicality for each individual requirement.

I have recently been fortunate enough to supply soft furnishings to a property featured in Kevin McCloud’s Grand Design Programme.

Southampton has been home the majority of my life; moving to the Isle of Wight in 2010. I was taught the values of being practical from an early age, learning the art of knitting, sewing and dress making.

It is one of my ambitions to pass on to the next generation an appreciation of traditional skills. I decided to set about introducing these skills to a new generation using the Beatrix Potter and Watch with Mother Characters. A copyright license for Beatrix Potter has been obtained for MyDesigns.

The Arts and Crafts movement was born of ideals, striving to maintain traditional skills and lessening the total effect of industrialisation on design.

My current unique production items include hand crafted children’s lampshades made from the finest materials available – resourced with extreme care. Quality cotton fabric is used, obtained from a family mill based in Cumbria, who also supply Savile Row and Jermyn Street shirt makers. The Chatburn family can point to a tradition in textiles dating back 90 years and spanning four generations.

"Design develops creativity and quality fabrics enhance the design. Making children smile is a bonus!"
